Allee dans le Parc (Ally in the Park) The piece I chose is an oil painting on canvas. The artist's name is Alice Pike Barney and she created this artwork in 1906, but the location is unknown. This painting was gifted to the Smithsonian American Art Museum by Laura Dreyfus Barney and Natalie Clifford Barney in memory of their mother, Alice Pike Barney. There was no other background on this painting. The elements I chose to discuss regarding this piece are color, tone, and line. Alice used dark, warm, and cool colors. The darkness and the coolness portions of the painting evokes a bit of an eerie feeling. The warmness used helps balance the painting and invites some coziness back into the painting. The tone in the painting creates a sense of depth and distance. This helps with definition of the trees and leaves as well as the light at the end of the tree tunnel.
